Rain

Posted on 21:36 by simmo
You know you're weird when you rejoice at the return of rain, in your famously rainy climate.

8:00 pm today, the outdoors still had that rainy, persistently green, cosy-afternoon aspect, more like 4 o'clock with a glowing grey sky.  I thought it was absolutely gorgeous.  Nobody here really understands.  They take a "grass is greener" view of the weather--but really, how could grass be greener in a sunny climate?

Sunny weather effects people's emotions in a positive way--the same goes for me, except it's rain instead.  Rain is a sight and sound for sore eyes and ears.  If you made me move to a desert climate, I'd become severely depressed, as if I were a geoduck harvested for an upscale eatery.  (Or something like that.)  Do you understand the feeling?  Everyone feels that way about something.

By the by, sorry for the lack of in-depth posts.  It's not so much that I have nothing to write about, but there's very little interesting to say.

Perfect

Posted on 18:15 by simmo
Have you ever felt, for a moment, that life is absolutely perfect?  Or, more rarely, that you are exactly who, what, and how you ought to be?  And then you want that moment to last forever.  Nothing changing or leaving it.  You feel so perfectly content, so complete, so truly at equilibrium, and too happy to make light of it by laughing.  You've known the other side, too, and this moment is more beautiful because it is light years away from disappointment, and forgetting doesn't hurt like remembering does.  You feel done wishing for other things--the thing you want most in this moment is only having what you have now until the day you die.  Which impossibility would make you sad if your mind was listless enough to have time to think about it, but your mind is too full comprehending perfection to give way to reality.  Hope instead becomes real, and doubt--doubt's the thing you can laugh over now.  This is what it means to live happily-ever-after.

Tolkien and Titans

Posted on 17:21 by simmo
Today I saw Middle Earth on the big screen for the FIRST TIME!  Local theaters are already playing the Hobbit trailer.  <3  It was truly epic hearing the music and dialogue and "Precioussss...." with a theater sound system.  Plus, you're assured it's going to be a big deal when they're playing a trailer for a December movie as early as APRIL.  <3

And that was the last trailer they played.  One does not simply play more trailers after the Hobbit trailer.

So our movie was Wrath of the Titans (Clash of the Titans 2).  RECOMMENDED.  I can't write a proper review right now...all I can do is rave about how epic it is.  Indeed, it IS better than Clash of the Titans.  It DOES include the LABYRINTH--one of my favoritest of favorite Greek mythological stories.  AND there's a Chimaera.  And Cyclopes.  The characters are really good and more developed than before.  This is a more serious movie than Clash of the Titans.  The mythology feels more like the Greek mythology I read about as a kid.  The human and fantasy aspects are both stronger.

I'm not sure why Wrath is getting such poor reviews.  Possibly because it is a decent action-adventure film, where heroines aren't femmes fatales, and mythological gods are just--mythological?   More on that when I write a real review.  ;)

"Study some pictures?"

Posted on 16:50 by simmo
Physical geography book.  Lots of nice, big pictures = easy reading?  No, indeedy.  Nice big pictures = redundant explanations via ornate graphs and charts, font size small.  If I read the word Insolation, Convection, or Gigajoules again today, screams will be forthcoming.

My Twitter account {please read}

Posted on 12:50 by simmo
Some of you may have noticed an unfortunate trend on this blog: my posts are getting shorter and shorter.  With school and other obligations, I'm having a hard time writing anything deep anymore.

So, I figure it's time to go with the flow and catch up with the times.  I'm deleting this blog and from now on will be posting on my new Twitter account:  The Sea-Bell (named after my favorite poem by J. R. R. Tolkien).

Please check it out, and follow!  :)  And a big thanks to all my readers and followers here, who have put up with my ramblings so patiently.
